Modern Wedding Rings by Greg Neeley Design

The whole idea of a "Modern Wedding Ring" is something that reflects new and unusual design. Greg Neeley has been designing and creating modern jewelry since 1979. From Greg's point of view modern design is not always synonymous with "plain" or "lacking detail". While modern design is minimalist in many cases, it is not void of detail. "I look for clean lines and smooth surfaces that said, fine organic details can add a flavor and richness that showcases the clean lines and smooth surfaces of my modern design". "I tend to think in terms of almost futuristic in my modern work". "Sometimes the idea of a space ship with Greek art accents is appealing to me". When I design a modern wedding ring for example the first thing I want to do is get it simple, next I want to make it elegant, then decorate it.
Here are some examples of modern design that I sketched in the late 1970's. Notice how futuristic they still look. There is definitely some 20th century feel to the design, but the overall look is still quite futuristic. Modern does not have to be minimalist, or too plain, but it is in my mind very clean. Of course there is the modern art that is very crude and rough, like torn pieces of material patched together into a balance of texture and form that you see at museums and art galleries. It is just not my idea of "Modern Wedding Ring" design. Believe me I know that there is a lot of argument out there among those who "categorize" art, I have "my" vision of what modern design is and I really don't care what category it might fall into in the world of "Modern Art". I must define what I do with the terms we are familiar with so I see myself as designing "Modern Wedding Rings".
